Putting multiple Lat/Long Points on a Google Map

Latitude Longitude Coordinates / Points Mapping Tool.

I was having a tough time finding a tool to map lat / long coordinates for a project. I needed to just copy and paste a bunch of coordinates and have points show up on a map, but I couldn't find a tool to do that, so I put a simple lat/long point mapping tool together.

Simply paste your geo-coded coordinates into the text box and hit submit. The page will reload and your points will be mapped. However, you must be sure to provide the latitude and longitude coordinates in the right format (this was just for internal use so I didn't bother with formatting or error checking). The right format is to use ONE combination lat, long per line. Separate the lat/long with a comma and there should be no spaces.

This looks like exactly what I need. But I am not sure if I am using it correctly. I enter multiple lat/longs but when I submit I only get a gray box with the pointers, the map disappears. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

It seems to be working for me.

Try clicking on the example link and then clicking to submit the points. Do you still get a grey map? If so, then it may be a compatibility issue with your browser.

If the example works correctly, try following the lat/long format exactly in the example when using your own points.

Simon - Most of the code is JavaScript but there is one vital thing that's done in PHP, for which I guess you may need the source, so I've made it available at the following URL:

http://www.darrinward.com/cgi-bin/map-lat-long-points.php.txt

Be sure to look through the code and replace "INSERT_YOUR_GOOGLE_MAPS_API_HERE" with the Google Maps API for the domain under which you will be running it.

Best of luck.

This is great, thanks. Google has caught up with you, though. You can now do this using Google Fusion tables. It's a bit more powerful and the display is maybe a bit better. You upload your data, then map it. It gives you points instead of flags, and if you hover over one, it gives you the associated metadata. Here's where to do it: http://tables.googlelabs.com/public/tour/tour1.html And here's a google blog post about it with some examples: http://google-latlong.blogspot.com/2010/02/mapping-your-data-with-google-fusion.html

Works great. I had text on the first line and I got nothing but a grey box. I removed the text and all works fine.

How do you avoid the 2048 character limitation of the request URL to the google maps api?
